Seen close, it’s a forest of vertical
strings, darker or lighter.

Stepping back, it becomes
a swooping lower lip,

then a hollow with a glimpse
of tongue and shadowy

front teeth, curving upper lip
nipped in the middle, fabric

breathing, speaking.
