CLAYDIES’ NIGHT
Claydies’ Night, hosted by multidisciplinary artist Julia Elsas, offers individual and small group ceramic handbuilding workshops for everyone from the novice to more experienced ceramicists. All hands welcome!
Julia has 20 years of experience teaching ceramics, printmaking and book arts. She currently teaches ceramic handbuilding at Greenwich House Pottery and previously taught at Montclair State University, SUNY Purchase, New Jersey City University, Lower East Side Print Shop and UC Davis.
Claydies’ Night group workshops are perfect for a hands-on creative hang with friends, colleagues and coworkers. Past workshop participants have made planters, incense holders, berry bowls, spoon rests, candle holders, bells, rattles, whistles and more!
Individual lessons are great if you prefer 1:1 instruction or want to develop a specific project or skill.
All classes take place at Julia’s studio in Gowanus, Brooklyn. She is up one flight of stairs and there is elevator access. Workshop pieces will be ready for pick up approximately 4 weeks after workshop date.
UPCOMING WORKSHOPS
Join me for a 2 hour ceramic hand building workshop to make your own maraca in my beautiful Brooklyn studio.
Sunday, June 7th, 3-5pm.
All materials (clay, tools, underglaze) will be provided and the price includes two kiln firings.
Your maraca will be ready to pick up 3-4 weeks after the workshop. Shipping is available for an additional charge.
Light refreshments will be served.
Address will be provided upon signup. My studio has elevator access.
If you are unable to make it after signing up, tickets can be swapped with another participant but not refunded.
CUSTOM CLASS OPTIONS
PRIVATE 1:1 CERAMIC HANDBUILDING INSTRUCTION
Perfect for honing skills, project consultation, scaling up, individual instruction
Lessons are 2-3 hours long, 1x/week.
$75/hr (does not include materials and firings)
SMALL GROUP HANDBUILDING WORKSHOPS
Perfect for a hands-on creative hang with friends, colleagues and coworkers
2 hours, 2 - 8 people
$150 / per person for 2-3 people; $125/per person for 4-8 people
Price includes materials and two kiln firings and light refreshments.
You can expect to make 1 piece (approximately 6” or under ) in this workshop. You will have a choice of decorating your work with underglazes or choosing one glaze color that will be applied by Julia after bisque firing.
SMALL GROUP CERAMIC INSTRUMENT WORKSHOPS
Perfect for musicians, deep listeners and fans of Sonic Mud!
2 hours, 2 - 8 people
$150 / per person for 2-3 people; $125/per person for 4-8 people
Price includes materials and two kiln firings and light refreshments.
In this workshop participants will make ceramic bells, rattles or other small instruments.
WOLLESONIC RATTLER WORKSHOP
Perfect for everyone!
2 hours, 2- 8 people
$75/per person for total workshop (includes materials)
Hands on workshop making small percussion instruments out of recycled materials (bottle caps, tin cans, film canisters, etc.) with Julia and Kenny Wollesen. You are welcome to byo bottle caps and other small and clean recycled materials to string up. FYI - This is not a ceramic workshop.
